Activating your DameWare products (version 8.0 and later)

 
The information in this article applies to:
  • DameWare Remote Support - Version(s) 8.0 and later
  • DameWare Mini Remote Control - Version(s) 8.0 and later

After you install DameWare Remote Support (DRS), DameWare Mini Remote Control (MRC), or DameWare NT Utilities (NTU) version 8.0 or higher, the program prompts you to enter the licensing information for your product.

You can activate the software in one of four ways:

To evaluate the software without a license:

  1. Click Continue Evaluation.
  2. When you are ready to license the product, open the licensing application on the computer you want to license:
    Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > Your DameWare Product > License Activation
  3. Complete one of the following procedures to go from an evaluation product to a licensed product.

To license the software on a computer with Internet access using the in-product activation prompt:

  1. Click Enter Licensing Information.
  2. Select I have internet access and an activation key.
  3. Click the http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal link to access the customer portal on the SolarWinds web site.
  4. Log on to the portal using your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
  5. Click License & Maintenance on the top navigation bar.
  6. Click on License management to view your products.
  7. Navigate to your product, click on the +, and copy an activation key from the Unregistered Licenses section.
  8. If you cannot find an activation key in the Unregistered Licenses section, contact DameWare Customer Service.
  9. Return to the activation window, and then enter the activation key in the Activation Key field.
  10. If you access Internet web sites through a proxy server, click I access the internet through a proxy server, and enter its proxy address and port.
    Note: If your computer accesses the Internet through an authenticated proxy server, click Proxy requires authentication and enter the username and password or complete the procedure for Activating without Internet access instead.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Enter your email address and other registration information, and then click Next.

To license the software on a computer with Internet access using the SolarWinds License Manager:

  1. Install DameWare Remote Support or Mini Remote Control version 8.0 or higher.
  2. Download SolarWinds License Manger Version 3.0.
  3. Select Activate under the action section.
  4. Click the http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal link to access the customer portal on the SolarWinds web site.
  5. Log on to the portal using your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
  6. Click License & Maintenance on the top navigation bar.
  7. Click on License management to view your products.
  8. Navigate to your product, click on the +, and copy an activation key from the Unregistered Licenses section.
  9. If you cannot find an activation key in the Unregistered Licenses section, contact DameWare Customer Service.
  10. Return to the activation window, and then enter the activation key in the Activation Key field along with o your email and phone number.
  11. If you have problems with activation via the SolarWinds Licensing Manger, please click View Log > save the notepad and contact DameWare Customer Service with that log file.
    If you have access to the Internet and suspect your network might have problems connecting to our licensing server, you can manually activate through the SolarWinds Customer Portal.

To license the software on a computer without Internet access:

  1. Click Enter Licensing Information.
  2. Select This server does not have internet access, and then click Next.
  3. Click Copy Unique Machine ID.
  4. Paste the copied data into a text editor document.
  5. Transfer the document to a computer with Internet access.
  6. On the computer with Internet access, complete the following steps:
    1. Browse to http://www.solarwinds.com/customerportal/licensemanagement.aspx, and then log on to the portal with your SolarWinds customer ID and password.
    2. Navigate to your product, and then click Manually Register License.
    3. If the Manually Register License option is not available for your product, contact DameWare Customer Service.
  7. Enter the Machine ID from Step 3, and then download your license key file.
  8. Transfer the license key file to the DameWare installation you are activating.
  9. Return to the activation window, browse to the license key file, and then click Next.
